What makes for this fee matching to happen? Almost certainly your trade volume. If you contact them stating you are going to switch to Tastyworks because of their fee structure, Thinkorswim may match Tastyworks fees. For example, if you are an existing Thinkorswim (TOS) broker customer, they want to retain your business. How do you get a fee discount with your stock options broker? Easy. However, if you are an established stock options trader, you may know fee structures can change through proactive discounts. If you are a new trader, then save yourself a time and go open a Tastyworks account. Tastyworks fees, which is better? The answer is more complex than what you think. Looks like I may need to continue my search for a better trading Brokerage.Thinkorswim vs. I still have the bulk of my holdings with TD Ameritrade. So far I'm not impressed and definitely not happy. I'll try out TW for several more months just to give them a fair trial. I've been a trader for over 23 years and I've never seen this level of incompetence. However their computer system still registers my account total as $28k. Anyways getting back to the issue I called about, I was told their settlement company marked down the value of one my stock option which is why my account total was marked down to $20k arbitrarily. Makes me feel unappreciated for my business. I've noticed a pattern in TW agents not being very courteous or show any appreciation or regard for me as a customer. When I called I was rudely greated., actually this is nothing new. Today I was informed I have a PDT margin call on my account even though my account today is well over $28k. Now, I don’t have any faith that they would resolve any more serious issues that could arise. Thank goodness this wasn’t an issue with my own money or trades because their incompetence in resolving this one issue is concerning.
All in all it’s been 3 months since I first contacted them regarding this issue and each time I was told they would fix it but never did. It’s now been over 2 weeks since my last phone call and still no promotional options. I was told again to give it one week and the options would show up in my account. This time I was told they never entered my choice (you could choose between options or stocks) and that’s why it didn’t go through to my account. I waited 2 weeks again, still no promotional options, and called Tastyworks customer service back. I waited 2 weeks but nothing happened so I called them and they apologized and said they would put it into my account and to give it a week. I emailed Tastyworks and they said they would put the options in my account and that it should take a few days. I opened my account during a promotional period and deposited the required cash to qualify for it but was never given the promotional options.
